By chance came across Eric Roach while looking at the website for Tralee. I recognised the name and pressed on the link. I was amazed to see what a successful career Eric had carved for himself, but totally shocked to find out about his untimely death. I was in the same class as his brother Bryan in The Green school. I knew of Eric because of this, and also that he was a guitarist. This interested me,as at the time I was a keen drummer. While I was Tralee I was admitted to the Bon Secure hospital for minor surgery. Eric also was in hospital at the same time as me and we ended up sharing a room for two. I don't think the nurses/sisters had any idea that that would end up in me and Eric becoming a StatusQuo tribute act for the three days we were together. Eric had his guitar and I cobbled together a makeshift Drum kit out of bedpans and the like. I still tell the story of our hospital gig when explaining to people how relaxed Ireland is/was. We met up after hospital for a few jam sessions which were good fun. I wish his family al the best, say hello to his brother Bryan(I don't know if you remember me, I was the lad that moved from England)and hope this story makes you all smile like it does me when I think back. By the way this was around 1985-86.

I'm so sad to learn of Eric's passing. I was just looking up some guitar books and stumbled upon his name in one of my searches and I thought "wait a minute. I know that name", so I searched further. I did a work experience placement at MI (Musicians' Institute) in the mid-90s, so I met and did some work alongside Eric. He was an amazing guitarist and teacher - always so encouraging. A wonderful man all-round.

I discovered Eric's music and life way too long after he passed away. One of my favorite piece of music is "Angel". It seems to me it describes what he was by the love and the sweetness even if I didn't know him.
I would like very much to play this music but I don't find any tablature anywhere. Do you thing there might be a possible re-publishing ?

Just like to thank everybody both performers and supporters for their efforts in Eric's 10th Anniversary Tribute in Tralee, Ireland tomorrow. It is lovely to hear that proceeds are allocated to local charities. We would love to have been with you but unfortunately the invitation from Eric's family came through only two weeks ago while on holiday abroad. Having had greater notice rest assured we would have been celebrating with you.
It's a shame that Eric's children will miss out on this wonderful occasion.

Best wishes Candy Roche

Just listening to the radio documentary again. Thanks to Tim Lunch for posting the link. Such fond memories of growing up in Tralee with Eric. I remember being so envious of his music and couldn't understand how someone with so. Cub musical talent could be such a massive Quo fan! He really was such a character and I always smile when I think of him.

I've just bought "With these hands" and am listening to it for the first time. Couldn't not do so really having heard Stuart Ryan's 'The Way Home' (and learned to play it - thanks to Stuart for making the music available), having seen another tribute in my RGM grade 7 book and heard another at a recent gig by Declan Zapala (an excellent guitarist).
I can see why Eric must have been so good live. This is lovely stuff.
So sad to lose people like this prematurely - having this year read biographies of Jackson C Frank and Sandy Denny, sadly it isn't anything new.
And I approve of not using a plectrum or picks!
