Eric's Diary

It's hard to place Eric Roche's music. As a whole it's not folk, it's not country and it's not rock or pop. But each track makes room for all of the above, at the same time hinting at classical influences. Full of details and finesse, every single song is an impressive mix. Eric is arguably the leading light of the new generation of fingerstyle guitarists.

Lead, rhythm, bass and percussion flow relentlessly from Eric's guitar, making it resonate generously to the merest touch. Underlying this is a profound musical mind, consummate technique and a depth of musical talent. His material is presented in an open, honest, personable way, the music tugging at the emotions. His songs work on many levels.

His second release on Inner Ear Music, 'Spin', is a new studio album that maintains and improves on the standards set by his previous release, The Perc-U-Lator. Spin contains much improvisation and high creativity. It's an intense and exhilarating piece of work. Eric writes a regular fingerstyle column in the international magazine "Guitar Techniques" and "Guitarist". He is head of guitar at The Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) in Guildford. He is also author of numerous books and has given workshops and master-classes all over the world.
